How to ‘Fish’ in the Ag Tire Industry

Let’s face it... Tires are tires. They aren’t fun, they aren’t sexy, and they definitely are not something that you can bring to the park and stop strangers in their tracks because of how adorable they are. Quite the opposite actually.

Usually, when you are calling us, it’s because you have a problem. We will take it a step further and say it’s most likely a problem you don’t want to deal with. We get it. Tires are a pain in the rear.

What if we could help save you money? Or, better yet, what if we help make you money? We’ll bet on that and up our ante... We will help you move your equipment more effectively for free.

How you ask? Simple.

You know that ancient proverb, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”? We are going to teach you to fish- in the ag tire industry that is. Keep reading to learn our strategy for how we, as ag tire experts, value the cost on all trade-in (used) ag tires.

Did you know valuing tires for a trade-in is a crucial step? Yeah, neither did the guy who just bought $40,000 worth of new rubber for his 4wd tractor. Don’t worry, here we will break down the importance of valuing your tires for a trade-in and how the tire industry has changed overtime impacting tire value.

If the wrong value is placed on tires this could impact many factors. For example, the incorrect value on tires could potentially stall a sale, cost the dealer a great amount of money to correct, or make the equipment sit on the lot for an extended period.

Industry Changes

It’s no secret that over time things tend to change– including tires. However, it’s almost impossible to compare year-to-year data for the price of agricultural tires. The industry itself has evolved in too many areas for there to be a common variable.

Last year the cost of natural rubber increased by over 8%. Many other areas of our industry are affected by inflation as well- steel, shipping fees, and possible crop trade disputes.

Curious about other changes that have impacted the Ag tire value?

  • The dollar value was different 15 years ago compared to now.
  • Tractor horsepower increased over the last 15 years. From 150 to 500 Hp.
  • Tractor speed moved from 15 mph to 40 mph.

... Here’s to working smarter not harder!

As ag tire experts, we understand how daunting placing a value on trade-ins can be. It’s right up there with having to catch an escaped pig... in the rain. That’s why we have put together a simple presentation walking you through the breakdowns we use to value tires on an everyday basis. Make sure you stay tuned for our next post: “Know the Factors”.

Keep in mind that you can always call us to help guide you through putting a value on your trade-ins.

Implement a better tire for irrigation.

Tread lightly. There’s money beneath you.

Implement a better tire for planting season.

Bigger is the new normal. And while bigger is sometimes better, bigger is usually heavier, too — especially when implements are loaded with the additional weight of herbicides, fertilizer and/or seed. In fact, this equipment can cause greater...

Roll Your Way to a Rebate.

From now until April 30, 2019, you’ll get $125 Visa Prepaid Card for every eligible Trelleborg tire you purchase — up to eight tires. That means you could get up to $1,000 back on tires you needed to buy anyway. And that’s a pretty...

It’s Harder to Hit Paydirt with Compacted Soil.

Ag equipment has become bigger and heavier over the years. And while that increase in size can increase efficiency over a growing season, it can have a negative impact on crop production due to soil deterioration and increased erosion from the extra...

Get in Wet Fields with Floats.

Spring is just around the corner. It may not feel like it with lingering cold weather. And the Farmer’s Almanac predicts a later, wetter planting season just like last year. But there’s a way to get into your fields sooner: sprayer...
