As time passes, I think 2019 will stick in our memories. I’ve personally reflected on it quite a bit as harvest has approached. I’ve also talked to many farmers and dealers who’ve been in the ag business many more years than me. No one can remember anything quite like this year. It’s one for the books, as they say, and I’m sure we’ll all reflect on it many years down the road.
A year like this makes me appreciate the trust you’ve placed in Dawson Tire & Wheel over the years and makes us all grateful for our partnership. Through our challenges and imperfections, you’ve continued to trust us with your ag tire and wheel needs. It means more to me and the Dawson team than we can put into words. Your commitment to push through adversity and tough seasons is inspiring. It’s kept me going in times when I may have felt like giving up. As a customer reminded me recently: Sometimes, it takes the tough years to make us truly appreciate the good ones.
As we turn towards harvest, I just want to remind you to stay safe. No need to make a tough year tougher. As the hours and days get longer, it’s easy to try to save time by taking shortcuts, but there are loved ones who depend on and need us. Today’s equipment continues to get bigger, go faster and carry heavier loads. One bad moment can end in a lifetime of damage and regret, so don’t jump past your safety steps to get into the field faster.
Lock machines when you’re working on them. Inspect your tires and wheels. Check your air pressure. Test your bolts to make sure they’re tight, because losing a tire on a loaded combine at 15 mph can cause a lot of damage. Chock and block any machine you need to raise. And check your fire extinguishers, because you never know when you might need them.
Ten minutes at the beginning of the day can save many hours and many dollars. It can also prevent lifelong injuries. So take ten and be safe. I look forward to talking to you sometime soon.
Here’s to a bountiful harvest.
