Founded in Farming – The Dawson Tire & Wheel Story
Eric MacPherson was operating a farm in Gothenburg, Nebraska.
He had a vision for starting a local tire service to support other farming operations in the area, and Dawson Tire Service was born.
Starting Small and Thinking Big
Though it was a “small” tire shop, the people at Dawson were thinking big. First, they started selling irrigation tires and wheels nationwide. Then, that small town tire shop expanded into a full-service retail tire store. Continuing to grow, the company changed its name to Dawson Tire & Wheel and started to focus more on Ag and irrigation wholesale business. But, from its roots as a retail supplier, the company identified a couple holes in the retail Ag tire market. And, it never stopped thinking “big.”
A Message From the Owner
"Sometimes we just get lucky. When my wife, Sharon and I started Dawson Tire in 1998 we didn’t have a plan, we didn’t have a strategy, didn’t have a clue actually about business. We just knew we couldn’t provide for a family working on a farm for 8 bucks an hour. And with a kid on the way, something had to change. What we did know was that we had a deep faith in God, and we knew how to work hard. As it was-there was a tire shop in Gothenburg that had closed down, so with a lot of praying, a few “this will never work’s” and some encouragement from a few close friends, we “jumped off the deep end” and Dawson Tire came to be. And what a journey.
If someone had “predicted” that we would have all of these amazing people working with us, locations and service trucks in various parts of North America, and a customer base that is nothing short of awesome (many of whom are close friends), I would have said they were crazy. So, there must be a reason. And in looking back at the last 20 years, I have come to believe that the reason Dawson is what it is today is embedded in a deep personal faith and a belief that we are put on earth to help other people-to touch their lives in some way. And whether we have someone work with us for 2 weeks or 20 years, or becoming involved in our customers lives, we are meant to leave something of ourselves behind. Some reason to make someone’s life better. And that is what we strive for every day. To Help People Grow. That and a Passion for Agriculture.
That we can participate in the greatest occupation on earth in our little way is fascinating to me. To be part of the ag community. To feel the energy, the drive for innovation, the commitment to be able to take care of-to be stewards really- of what God has left in the farmers and ranchers hands. And we are lucky enough to be a part of it. So, Thank You again for stopping by! We look forward to meeting you someday and sharing stories. Sometimes we just get lucky…
